zVPS is a complete performance package for z/VM, Linux, TCP/IP, and z/VSE from the experts in VM performance.
Today's complex IT systems include Linux servers, Windows servers, mainframes, networks, and numerous applications. Performance of every component is important to your business, requiring a complete and integrated performance monitoring solution.
zVPS collects and analyzes data from z/VM, your Linux servers, network, z/VSE and z/OS systems in a consistent and integrated format. Data is continually collected, presented in real-time, and stored in a single performance database. Automatic analysis triggers alerts when exceptions occur. Reports are generated for long-term trend analysis and capacity planning. And all this information is accessible via your web browser or a CMS terminal.
Measure your Linux systems and applications
As your servers continue to multiply and applications migrate across platforms, the need to monitor workloads becomes increasingly critical. zVPS measures your applications running under Linux — on remote servers, under z/VM, in LPARs — on any system.
Using Net-SNMP as a standard data source, zVPS can gather data from any number of servers. Net-SNMP incorporates UCD (University of California, Davis) Host-MIBS and MIB-II for network management. Net-SNMP has been ported to Linux and numerous other platforms including Windows, Sun, and HP.
Measure the traffic on every node on your network
As your network grows and becomes more complex, you need to know where the load is, what the load is, and if there are any network errors. zVPS measures all of these, allowing you to find current and potential bottlenecks, and notifies you immediately if a host stops responding.
zVPS uses SNMP as its primary data source for network data. This standard data source provides load information on the transport layer, the internet layer, and every interface on each node. zVPS monitors all SNMP-compliant network nodes, which includes z/VM, Linux, OS/2, Windows, Sun/OS, DEC/OS, Macintosh, most Unix-based networks, routers, printers and more.
Measure every component and subsystem of your z/VM system
Your z/VM systems support multiple applications, users, and virtual servers competing for common system resources. An application or server with performance problems can impact all other servers. zVPS includes zMAP and zMON, the world standards for measuring z/VM systems and Linux servers on IBM Z.
Web Based Access
zVPS real-time displays, historical reporting, and trending reports are all accessible over your intranet via your Web browser. An implementation of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is included with the product to ensure security of your data.
Not every application should be ported to the mainframe. Some workloads are best-suited to Z; some are more appropriate for Intel platforms. Before you commit time, money, and resources, you should evaluate the resource requirements of each existing server, and project the impact of porting that system . With zVPS, you can identify resource usage issues in advance, by measuring current resource requirements of the workload under consideration.
The measurement data provided by zVPS shows system-by-system and application-by-application storage and processor requirements, allowing you to determine the most appropriate platform for each workload. This can contribute directly to the corporate bottom line by taking full advantage of hardware resources by utilizing it most efficiently.
Complete z/VM system measurement: zVPS is continuously updated to exploit the most current technology, including the newest features in the operating system and subsystems. zVPS monitors all resources and subsystems, including processor, storage, shared address space, saved segments, virtual disks, DASD, paging, spooling, SFS, user state sampling, FICON, ESCON, PAV, minidisk cache and more.
Standardized Reporting: Extensive real time displays, daily and long term reports are provided in an easy-to-understand format accessible with your web browser, on 3270 terminals via CMS, or in print. In-depth analysis for both reactive problem-solving and proactive capacity planning is straightforward, with simple drill-down capabilities to show greater levels of detail.
Exception Monitoring and Reporting: With zVPS, you can fix problems before users even notice. zVPS offers an automated facility that recognizes system errors and load conditions based on installation-defined criteria, and optionally performs corrective action. And product displays provide visual representations of potential bottlenecks and problems.
The zVPS suite includes zTCP to collect network and Linux performance data, zMON to display real-time network, Linux, and VM performance, zMAP to create reports and perform detailed analysis after the fact, and zVWS to provide Web-based graphical user interface.
