As applications are available almost anywhere on your network and disparate platforms are used to deploy those applications, a solution is needed to monitor those applications and platforms.
Velocity Software offers zTCP, a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) client that runs on z/VM and measures the performance of Linux hosts and applications running almost anywhere.
zTCP runs in a service machine that writes performance data received from SNMP to the standard VM monitor data stream, which is then processed by zMON and zMAP.
It measures the performance of any SNMP-compliant host and application, z/VM, Windows, Sun, Linux, and most Unix-based networks. To manage multiple TCP/IP networks, parameters are supplied to zTCP that define the various IP addresses. Physical network connections are also required, either via corporate intranets or over the Internet, as well as security authorizations on the server.
zTCP collects information such as connection service times, client performance data, application performance data, and many data points from the four different layers of the TCP/IP (physical, transport, internet, and application).
In addition to host, process and network data, SNMP compliant applications can also be measured. This includes MongoDB, Oracle (via a Velocity provided MIB), Docker (via a Velocity provided MIB), and GPFS (Spectrum Scale).
z/VSE systems can be monitored via the IBM supplied SNMP function that was made available starting with z/VSE 4.3. The IBM supplied function shows system related data. Velocity Software provides a plugin that also shows partition (job) information.
zTCP is a component of zVPS (the Velocity Performane Suite)
