RMMCMD Command
RMMCMD is a "customer" written application that interfaces with RMM on the z/OS system. The commands below use the same syntax as the old VM:Tape product. This is ensure that user written applications continue to function.

MOUNT Command
Use the MOUNT command to mount a tape.
The syntax and options for the MOUNT command vary depending on
whether you are mounting a saved tape or a scratch tape.
The syntax and options for mounting a saved tape are as follows:
+-------+--------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | | Mount | volser < vaddr > < DSN dsname > < (options > | | | | | | Options: | | | < FOR userid > | | | < ANYTAPE > | | | < REAd | WRIte > | | | < STACK < FIFO | LIFO > > | | | < WAit | NOWAit > | | | | +-------+--------------------------------------------------------------+
The syntax and options for mounting a scratch tape are as follows:
+-------+-------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | | Mount | < SCRATCH | SCRTCH > < vaddr > < DSN dsname > ..... | | | ... < ( options > | | | | | | Options: | | | | | | < RETpd days > | | | < FOR userid > | | | < POOL name > | | | < LOCation location > | | | < STACK < FIFO | LIFO > > | | | < WAit | NOWAit > | | | | +-------+-------------------------------------------------------------+
Parameters are as follows:
- volser < vaddr > specifies the volser of the tape to mount. This cannot be a scratch tape. The default for vaddr is 181.
- SCRATCH | SCRTCH > < vaddr > indicates that RMMCMD is to mount a scratch tape. The default for vaddr is 181.
- FOR userid > instructs RMMCMD to mount the specified tape and attach the tape drive to the specified userid instead of to your userid.
- ANYTAPE > let you mount a tape that belongs to another userid.
- DSN dsname > specifies the primary data set name to create for the scratch tape.
- RETpd days > specifies when the tape is to expire.
- FOR userid > instructs RMMCMD to mount the tape and attach the tape drive to the specified userid instead of to your userid. For scratch mounts RMMCMD makes userid the tape's owner.
- POOL name > specifies the pool from which to select the scratch tape. The default is set by the system administrator.
- STACK < FIFO | LIFO > > specifies that RMMCMD is to stack the volser in the program stack upon completion of the mount. The format of the data is * volser dsn.
- LOCation location > specifies the VTS location. For example GDSVTS1. The default is set by the system administrator.
- REAd | WRIte > specifies whether RMMCMD is to mount the tape in read-only or read-write mode. Default for a volser mount is READ.
- WAit | NOWAit > indicates whether the MOUNT command is to complete as soon as the RMMCMD virtual machine receives the mount request (NOWAIT) or is not to complete until the requested tape is mounted and RMMCMD attaches the drive to your virtual machine (WAIT). Your system administrator sets the default for this option.
CATALOG Command
Use the CATALOG command to change volume or data set information
for a specified tape.
You can change the following volume information:
- Data set name
- Expiration date
- Volume chaining
+----------+---------------------------------------------------+ | | | | | +- -+ | | CATalog | volser DSN dsname | (options | | | | RETPD days | | | | | NEXTVOL nxtvol | | | | | | | | | | +- -+ | | | Options: | | | < ANYTAPE > | | | | +----------+---------------------------------------------------+
Parameters for Changing Volume Information
- volser specifies the volser of the tape whose volume information to change.
- DSN dsname lets you change the DSN to dsname.
- RETPD days specifies the retention period in days from today.
- NEXTVOL nxtvol specifies that RMM is to chain a tape (nxtvol) to the tape you are working with (volser).
LIST Command
Use the LIST command to list scratch tapes or to list volume and
data set information for saved tapes.
The LIST command displays all dates in yyyy/ddd format.
The syntax and options for the LIST command vary depending on
whether you are specifying scratch or saved tapes, and on
whether you are specifying saved tapes by volser or by data set
name. By default, the LIST command lists information for all of
your tapes.
OPERATOR authorization is required to specify scratch tapes.
The syntax and options are as follows:
+------+-------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | | List | SCRATCH | < (options > | | | | | | Options: | | | < LOCation location > | | | < DETail number > | | | | +------+-------------------------------------------------------------+
The syntax and options for specifying saved tapes are as follows:
+------+--------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | | | +- -+ | | List | volser | (options | | | | DSN dsname | | | | | +- -+ | | | | | | Options: | | | < SHORT > | | | < FILE filename | STACK < LIFO | FIFO > | | | < LOCation location > | | | < OWNEDBY userid > | | | < SEQuence > | | | < ACCT > | | | | +------+--------------------------------------------------------------+
Parameters and Options for Specifying Scratch Tapes
- < DETail number > Allows you to limit the number of tapes listed.
- < LOCation location > lists the tapes from this location. For example GDSVTS1. The default is set by the system administrator.
Parameters and Options for Specifying Saved Tapes
- < volser | * >
identifies the tapes for which to list information.
You can specify one volser to list information for that tape only. You can use an asterisk to specify all volsers to be listed.
If you want to specify another user's tapes, you must use the OWNEDBY option. - < SHORT > specifies that you only want volser, expiration date and data set name listed.
- < FILE filename | STACK < LIFO | FIFO >
specifies the destination for the output from this command,
as follows:
Parameter Sends the output to: ----------------- ---------------------------------------- FILE filename Variable-length format CMS file named filename VMTAPE STACK
Program stack, where it is placed in last in, first out (LIFO) or first in, first out (FIFO) order
The default is to your terminal - < LOCation location > limits the tapes for which to list information by location, or specifies that RMMCMD is to list the location for each of the specified tapes.
- < OWNEDBY userid > specifies the userid whose tape or data set information to list.
- < SEQUENCE > if any of the specified tapes are part of a multivolume sequence, specifies that RMMCMD is to list information for all tapes in the sequence in the order in which they are chained.
- < ACCT > specifies that you want the account information listed.
QUERY Command
Use the QUERY command to display information about:
- Pending mounts
- Locations
- Tape drives
- Tape ownership
The syntax for users is as follows:
+---------+-----------------------------------------------------+ | | | | | +- -+ | | Query | | Requests | | | | | LOCation| | | | | Tapes | | | | | Volume volser | | | | +- -+ | | | | +---------+-----------------------------------------------------+
- < Requests > displays all pending mounts.
- < LOCation < location > > displays the status of the location.
- < Tapes > (Requires OPERATOR Authority.) Displays all VTS tape drives.
- < Volume volser > displays tape ownership and location information.
CONFIG Command
Use the CONFIG command to make the RMMCMD process the config file. Perhaps after it has been changed. You need to have OPERATOR authority to execute this command.
+--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | CONFIG | | | +--------------------------------------------------------------------+Back to TOP
RESTART Command
Use the RESTART command to re-cycle the RMMCMD servers. You need to have OPERATOR authority to execute this command.
+--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | RESTART | | | +--------------------------------------------------------------------+Back to TOP
CANCEL Command
Use the CANCEL command to cancel pending tape mount requests.
You might use the CANCEL command when a requested tape cannot be
mounted or the request was entered by mistake.
If VM:Tape has already mounted a tape and attached a device in
response to a tape mount request and you want to cancel that
mount, use the CP DETACH command to detach the tape drive and
unload the tape.
The syntax for the CANCEL command varies depending on whether
you are a user or an operator. The syntax for users is as
follows:
+-----------+---------------------------------------------------+ | | | | CANcel | < vaddr > | | | | +-----------+---------------------------------------------------+
The syntax for operators (users with OPERATOR authorization) is as follows:
+-----------+---------------------------------------------------+ | | | | CANcel | < vaddr > < userid > | | | | +-----------+---------------------------------------------------+
- < vaddr > specifies your pending mount requests at the indicated virtual device address. The default for vaddr is 181.
- < userid > specifies the userid whose pending mount requests to cancel.
Examples:
- Cancel Your Pending Mount Requests
- To cancel your request to mount a tape at virtual address
181, enter:
vmtape cancel 181
- You want to cancel your scratch mount request at virtual
address 182. Because you specified the WAIT option on the
MOUNT command, you must first halt execution of the MOUNT
command. Enter the CMS HX command:
hx
To cancel the scratch mount request, enter:
vmtape cancel 182
- Cancel Pending Mount Requests for Another Userid
To cancel a mount request for userid VMUSER at virtual
address 310, enter:
vmtape cancel 310 vmuser
- To cancel your request to mount a tape at virtual address
181, enter:
RMS Command
Use the RMS to change the interface status of a VTS Location. The status is either ONLINE or OFFLINE
+------+-------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | | RMS | < STOP | START > location | | | | +------+-------------------------------------------------------------+
- < location > Sepcifies the VTS location. For example GDSVTS1.
If you can't measure it, I'm just not interested! TM
